Barcelona XI vs Villarreal: Confirmed early team news, predicted lineup, latest injuries for LaLiga match

Antoine Griezmann is expected to return to the starting line-up for Barcelona as Quique Setien’s side travel to Villarreal in LaLiga this evening.

The French forward has been benched by Setien for the last two games and was controversially sent on in the dying seconds against former club Atletico Madrid in a 2-2 draw at Camp Nou on Tuesday night.

Setien says he has spoken to the World Cup winner about his situation and claims he can ‘count 100 per cent’ on the 29-year-old, who looks likely to feature from the outset alongside Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez at the Estadio de la Ceramica.

Youngster Riqui Puig should start in midfield after impressing against Celta Vigo and Atletico in the last two matches, with Sergi Roberto likely to come back in at right-back in place of Nelson Semedo.

Samuel Umtiti has a fresh knee problem and is sidelined, Barca announced on Friday, so Clement Lenglet will partner Gerard Pique at the back.

Frenkie de Jong is still out with a calf injury, while Ousmane Dembele is not ready to return from a long-term problem and cannot feature in LaLiga anyway after he was deregistered in February to allow Barca to sign striker Martin Braithwaite in an emergency deal.

Setien has named a 24-man squad, which includes a number of youngsters, but one of those will be left out as new rules allow 12 players to be on the bench.

Barca are to travel to Villarreal by bus in order to avoid airport protocols and the Catalans could find themselves seven points adrift by the time they kick off, with Real Madrid’s 34th-round clash at Athletic Club taking place earlier on Sunday.
