BARRY FERGUSON has urged his nephew Lewis to move on from Aberdeen to further his career.

The central midfielder has been with the Dons since moving to Pittodrie from Hamilton back in 2018.

Ferguson has two years remaining on his current Aberdeen deal but in recent weeks he has been linked with a move away from Scotland.

Italian outfit Lecce are said to have submitted a £2million bid, while Milwall and Galatasaray have also been credited with interests.

Ferguson's uncle and Rangers legend Barry now believes it is time for him to move on from Aberdeen to take the next step in his career.

Speaking to Go Radio, he said: "He's gone up to Aberdeen and played virtually every game.

"He's done a very good job for Aberdeen but I think going forward, he's at a stage where he has played a number of games and broken into the Scotland squad, so for Lewis's development I think it's time for him to move on.

"I'm sure Aberdeen will get financially rewarded.

"If you strip everything back then now is the time for Lewis to go and try and showcase his football talents - either down south or abroad.

"I would love nothing more than for Lewis to go and play at the highest level.

"He's at a good level now and at a good club. I'm not being disrespectful.

"I'm just thinking selfishly in terms of Lewis' career. I do think he has another level or two to go up and I think now is the time for him to go and try to find the right club for him.

"He's played a lot of games and scored a right few goals for Aberdeen and he's an international so Aberdeen will want well compensated."
