Baseball: Jacksonville loses 2-0 to Lobos in Hallsville tourney

Mar. 7—HALLSVILLE — Jacksonville opened its run in the (Hallsville) Reich Builders Tournament Thursday morning by dropping a 2-0 decision to Longview

The Lobos (4-8) sent a run across the plate in the bottom of the first and the bottom of the fourth innings in collecting the win.

Lobo pitching held Jacksonville (4-5-1) to five singles in the game, with Max Briley going 2-3 at the plate.

Jayden Boyd, Hunter Nance and Khai Canady each stroked a base hit for the Indians, who are scheduled to take on host Hallsville at 1:15 p.m. Thursday.

Karson Shoemaker drew the start for the Tribe and worked 4.1 innings, giving up two runs, both earned, on seven hits. He struck out five Longview hitters and walked two.

Turning in a solid relief outing for Jacksonville was Giancardo Rico, who tossed 1.2 innings and struck out one Lobo. He didn't allow a run, hit or walk.
