Basketball: JHS girls to battle Lady Mustangs for league bragging rights

Feb. 5—Jacksonville moved up to No. 22 in this week's Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Girls Class 4A basketball poll.

The Maidens knocked off Palestine, 46-35, in their most recent outing Friday in Jacksonville to move to 26-8, 9-0 in District 18-4A.

Jacksonville is slated to close out the regular season at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday by facing No. 24-ranked Madisonville (25-5, 8-1) at 6:15 at the Competition Gymnasium in Madisonville.

The Maidens beat the Lady Mustangs, 57-52, when the two clubs hooked up on January 19 at John Alexander Gymnasium.

The Lady Mustangs, who trounced Bullard 58-42 Friday, have lost just one game on their home court this season and that came on November 17, 2023 when Fairfield downed Madisonville, 50-41.

A Jacksonville win Tuesday will give the Maidens an out right district championship, while a loss will result in the Maidens and the Lady Mustangs ending up as co-champions of the district.
