Rose was injured in the third quarter of the Bulls' loss at the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday night.
Rose, 25, also sat out the 2012-13 season with a torn left ACL suffered in April 2012. He has played just 50 games in the last three seasons, including one playoff game.
The Los Angeles Lakers have signed star guard Kobe Bryant to a two-year contract extension.
Financial terms of the deal were not announced by the Lakers, but ESPN Los Angeles reported that Bryant will remain the NBA's highest-paid player. Per the report, Bryant is scheduled to make $23.5 million next season and $25 million in the second year of the contract.
The Lakers have reassigned forwards Ryan Kelly and Elias Harris to the Los Angeles D-Fenders of the NBA D-League.
Golden State Warriors center Andrew Bogut and Portland Trail Blazers guard Mo Williams were suspended one game without pay for fighting, the NBA announced.
The incident occurred with 3:42 left in the third quarter of the Trail Blazers' 113-101 win over the Warriors on Saturday in Oakland.
The Warriors have recalled centre Dewayne Dedmon and guard Nemanja Nedovic from Santa Cruz of the NBA Development League.
