At the end of last season, Lewandowski linked up with Poland during the international break and used a pre-match press conference to state that his journey with Bayern Munich had run its course.

The player had set his sights on a move to Barcelona, but with the Spanish club struggling to finance a serious bid, Lewandowski's future remained uncertain.

Last week, the Pole - who still has one year left on his contract with Bayern - was forced to turn up for training as Julian Nagelsmann's side kicked off pre-season preparations.

At the same time, Barcelona alleviated some of their financial pressures and ramped up transfer activity by completing the signing of Raphinha from Leeds United.

According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Lewandowski is also set to join the Catalan giants.

The Pole is expected to complete his move over the weekend after the two clubs reportedly agreed a £42million fee.

Romano has also revealed that Lewandowski snubbed both Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain, saying the striker was not interested in discussions with those clubs.

The 33-year-old has spent the last eight seasons at the Allianz Arena where he scored 344 goals in 375 games for Bayern.

Lewandowski helped the club to eight consecutive Bundesliga titles, eight domestic cups, one Champions League, one UEFA Super Cup and one FIFA Club World Cup.

The striker is no stranger to controversial transfers, having moved to Bayern from arch rivals Borussia Dortmund.

Lewandowski spent four seasons at the club, where scored 103 goals in 187 outings and helped Jurgen Klopp's side to two Bundesliga titles.
