BBC pundit's three Newcastle United heroes as Premier League goal machine shut out
It was supposed to be all about Chris Wood and Elliot Anderson, but by 4pm on Sunday, all the talk was of Alexander Isak, Joelinton and Newcastle United's 3-1 win over Nottingham Forest.
The Magpies rallied after conceding the opening goal to Forest's Murillo to put in a superb second-half performance to bring all three points back to Tyneside. It was the perfect way to sign off for the international break, and on the back of wins over Chelsea and Arsenal, sets Eddie Howe's side up nicely for the pre-Christmas fixtures.
There were excellent displays all over the pitch in black-and-white, but former Watford striker Troy Deeney picked out three Newcastle players in particular when naming his team of the week for his BBC column.

While Joelinton and Isak rightly took the headlines for their goalscoring exploits, Deeney was quick to namecheck United defender Dan Burn for nullifying the threat of former Newcastle striker Chris Wood. The Kiwi frontman has eight goals to his name this term, but was barely given a sniff by Burn and Fabian Schar, something whch caught Deeney's eye.
"Two old-fashioned English centre-halves this week (Wolves' Craig Dawson also made his team) and they were both excellent and did their jobs so well. Forest's Chris Wood has been the striker of the year so far and Burn put him to task. He did such a great job that Wood only had one touch in the Newcastle box."
Turning to Joelinton, Deeney added: "Everyone keeps forgetting that Joelinton came as a striker and game upon game, season upon season he just gets better and better as a midfielder. He's a big, strong physical specimen who scored an excellent goal but I like the whole way he conducts himself. He gets after people, and he's not afraid to make a tackle."
Isak now has four goals in his last four games in all competition after a slow start to the season which was hampered by a broken toe. However, Deeney was hugely impressed with how he helped change the game
"A first time in the team this season for Isak," he wrote. "He got a goal and an assist against Forest and had great link-up play. He could have scored another one in the second half as well. When Newcastle were up against it he went 'right, watch this'. He can turn it up a level and dragged his team with him."
