Bearkats claim out-right CUSA regular season title in first year

Mar. 9—HUNTSVILLE — After clinching at least a share of the Conference USA title Thursday night in Ruston, Sam Houston will head into the postseason as the lone regular season champion from the league.

Sam Houston hosted fellow CUSA newcomer, Jax State, in the season finale with almost everything locked up for the Kats in their first season. Though it took all 40 minutes, the Bearkats rallied for an 81-73 win over the Gamecocks to claim the our-right title in their first year in CUSA.

Senior forward Soulemane Doumbia was the key to the victory. In his final game in Huntsville, he tallied a career-high 22 points and snagged 11 boards for a double-double.

The Bearkats will now head to the CUSA Tournament in Huntsville, Alabama, and will start play on Wednesday, March 13.
