Martin Allen has taken Barnet’s fight to avoid relegation from League Two to the final game — six years after he kept the Bees in the Football League on the last day.

Barnet were heading down on Saturday before Alex Nicholls scored in the 79th minute to secure a 1-0 victory at Morecambe.

The Bees now need to beat already‑relegated Chesterfield at home on Saturday and then hope Morecambe lose at Coventry.

Barnet were seven points from safety at the bottom of the table when Allen took over in March, with just eight games remaining. Allen, who succceded Graham Westley, said: “All we can do is get a full house at the Hive and smash it. What will be will be. I have been in this situation many times and it is very exciting. I love it.”
