Belgium take on France in Turin tonight for the right to play Spain in the final of the Nations League.

The game between the two European heavyweights is a repeat of the 2018 World Cup semi-final, which France won 1-0 before going on to lift the trophy.

Spain beat Italy 2-1 in the other semi-final in Milan on Wednesday and will face the winners at the San Siro on Sunday.

The losers will be back in Turin to play Italy in a third-placed play-off at Juventus’ Allianz Stadium.

France manager Didier Deschamps said: "There is this rivalry and it’s maybe a bit heightened after the semi-final in Russia."

Reigning world champions France are hoping to put a hugely disappointing European Championship campaign firmly behind them after the pre-tournament favourites were shockingly ousted by Switzerland on penalties in the last 16.

Deschamps’ side have not been in the best of form since then either, enduring a frustrating pair of World Cup qualifying draws against Bosnia and Herzegovina and Ukraine, having initially gone behind in both matches before having to fight back. Antoine Griezmann’s double saw them get back on track against Finland last month.

Still the world’s no1-ranked team, Belgium reached the quarter-finals of the delayed Euros, but succumbed to eventual winners Italy in Munich.

Roberto Martinez’s so-called Golden Generation will be only too aware that their chances of living up to that moniker by winning a trophy are quickly running out.

Belgium have been among the goals in World Cup qualifying, hitting eight in two matches against Estonia and the Czech Republic before Dennis Praet's goal saw them past Belarus last time out.

These two nations finished top of Nations League groups A2 and A3 respectively to make these finals.

Belgium vs France is scheduled for a 7:45pm BST kick-off on Thursday, October 7, 2021.

The match will take place at the Allianz Stadium in Turin, home of Juventus.
