Ben Davies admits Tottenham players are ‘desperate’ to ‘get going’ under Antonio Conte

Tottenham Hotspur defender Ben Davies has described Antonio Conte as a “world class manager” but urged the need for patience following Sunday’s 0-0 draw away at Everton.

Spurs did not muster a shot on target at Goodison Park despite working the ball into a number of good areas in what was a much more cagey affair than Conte’s first game, a 3-2 home win over Vitesse Arnhem in the Europa Conference League on Thursday night.

While that will of course be a disappointment, the Italian has been in his post for less than a week and, speaking to the club’s official website after the game, Davies urged the need for patience.

“We’ve got a lot to work on,” said the Welsh international.

“We’ve got a lot to improve on but I think he’s a world class manager who is going to bring his ideas in.

“He is going to work us hard to make sure we do it right. As players, we’re desperate to get going with him now.”

With a number of fairly high-profile Spurs players not called up to international duty following a difficult start to the campaign for the club, Conte does have at least some time to work on his plans before the Premier League resumes later this month.

Next up for Tottenham is the visit of Leeds United on Sunday 27th November at 16.30pm GMT.
