Montpellier have announced the signing of former Blues and All Blacks Sevens finisher Ben Lam, who will join the club on a deal until 2024.

The 31-year-old is renowned as a reliable finisher and will be a welcome addition to the team’s backline stocks as they look to build on their title success.

Lam is 194cm and weighs in at 104kg and will join Philippe Saint-Andre’s Montpellier from Top 14 rivals Bordeaux-Begles where he’s been since 2020.

Impressed at Hurricanes

Before that the powerful and fleet-footed back impressed at the Hurricanes between 2017 and 2020 but started his Super Rugby career with the Blues.

Lam also made a name for himself on the World Rugby Sevens Series circuit for New Zealand, playing in 16 tournaments during that early-career stint.

He will join Gabriel N’Gandebe, Vincent Rattez, Julien Tisseron and Arthur Vincent as strong wing options available to Saint-Andre in the new season.
