A TAUNTON man dishonestly failed to notify the Department for Work and Pensions of a number of cash deposits in his bank account.

Mark Barrow, 47, of Lyngford Square, pleaded guilty to the offence when the case was heard at Taunton Magistrates' Court.

The magistrates were told the case related to payments he received between April 9, 2020, and March 3 last year.

He did not report the payments despite knowing the "change of circumstances" would affect his entitlement to Employment Support Allowance.

He was made the subject of a community order, fined £120 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £90.

Magistrates did not impose an order for Barrow to pay a contribution towards prosecution costs due to his lack of means.

He must pay the total court bill of £210 at a rate of £20 a month starting on June 23.
