The 25-year-old was the toast of fans on Friday following a cheeky free-kick for the opener as the Magpies picked a 2-0 win at the Cardiff City Stadium.
The goal apparently left an impression on many, with fans calling for the on-loan winger to be handed a permanent deal at St. James' Park, but the coach appears to have a different view.
“The future of a player doesn’t change with one action or goal,” Benitez said, according to the Chronicle Live.
“We know that he’s a good player. We have to decide.
"I’m really pleased with him.
"We have to see where we are in terms of the squad and all these things.
“[The goals] were very good. I’m happy with both, not just because it was a goal or a great goal, but because we have been talking about accuracy and being more clinical in front of goal.”
With one more game to end the season, which will also be the end of Atsu's loan spell at St. James' Park, the Ghana international has so far made 31 league appearances involving 14 starts for Newcastle.
The former Porto and Everton man has five goals and three assists to his credit.
Reports say parent club Chelsea are asking for £6.5 million before permanently severing ties with the attacker.
