Conor Benn returns to the ring this weekend with an intriguing 10-round fight against Chris Algieri.

The undefeated ‘Destroyer’ moved to 19-0 as a professional with his wide points win over Adrian Granados on the Warrington-Lara 2 undercard in Leeds back in September and, while that was a useful workout and a good exercise in getting rounds under the belt, it paled in comparison to his stunning, vicious 82-second stoppage of Samuel Vargas.

Benn now has his sights set on meeting the winner of the long overdue all-British catchweight grudge match between Amir Khan and Kell Brook in February, but first he must overcome a seasoned campaigner in Algieri in Liverpool.

Now known more for his ringside commentary than in-ring exploits, the 37-year-old Algieri has only fought once since 2019 - a unanimous decision win over fellow American veteran Mikkel LesPierre in August.

‘The Fighting Collegian’ is a former WBO light welterweight champion who went 12 rounds with Manny Pacquiao in an unsuccessful welterweight title challenge in 2014, while he was also stopped by Errol Spence Jr in 2016.

Algieri - an ex-kickboxing champion - is best known on these shores for his 2015 bout against Khan, losing on points in New York. He also beat Tommy Coyle at Madison Square Garden back in 2019.

Benn vs Algieri fight prediction

This is a good fight for Benn - one of Britain’s most exciting fistic talents - to take the next step in his burgeoning career.

Algieri is a well-known, respected and tough opponent who loves a scrap, but his best days in the ring have surely long since passed.

Benn got a valuable workout against Granados, even if the performance lacked the formidable power of his devastating win over Vargas.

However, that was largely due to a reluctance to engage on his opponent’s part - something that won’t be the case with Algieri.

We expect Benn to put on another impressive show here and secure a stoppage in the latter half of the fight. Let’s say round eight.
