Dimitar Berbatov warns Man Utd winger Antony that opponents are going to “kick the s*** out” of him if he continues to “mock” players with his trickery.

The Red Devils signed the Brazil international in the summer transfer window for around £85m as they looked to back Erik ten Hag ahead of the new season.

Antony has underwhelmed for most of the season, despite scoring some spectacular goals, with the former Ajax star contributing three goals and no assists in 14 Premier League appearances.

The Brazilian has shown he has ability with tricks and flicks but that element of his game has frustrated fans on occasion with the showboating producing little end product.

And Berbatov has called on the Man Utd winger to “remove” certain “traits” or continue to “p*ss people off”.

Berbatov told Betfred: “Sometimes his trickery provides nothing for the team and if he can eradicate these negative elements of his game then it will greatly improve his impact on the team. However, if you mock your opponent then they’re going to kick the sh*t out of you and you’re not going to have the respect of the players you’re playing against.

“If he can remove these traits, then he can improve a lot more because he’s a great talent with great qualities and he scores great goals as well. His problem is that he can p*ss people off and he needs to correct this.”

On whether the volume of matches will impact the Red Devils’ chances of winning silverware, Berbatov added: “To be honest, I don’t think so. At the end of the day, and coming from a personal experience of playing for Manchester United, you’re always going to have a lot of games to play and when you’re in good form, you can’t wait for the next game to come.

“You always want to be in all competitions and have the chance of winning silverware, and when you take the history of Manchester United into account, you always need to prepare and be ready for periods like this.

“You’re professional, you’re paid good money, you’ve got a great coach and at this moment you’re in a good position to attack and win in these competitions to get more silverware. I believe they’re in a great position to win more silverware this season.”

When asked if Man Utd are at risk of dropping out of the top four after picking up just one Premier League point in their last two matches, Berbatov continued: “As I played for Manchester United, I’m sometimes a little bit biassed.

“Putting bias aside however, they’re one point ahead of Tottenham Hotspur and three ahead of Newcastle United but as Tottenham have played two more games, as long as Manchester United can be consistent, then their job will become a lot easier.

“I do believe they’ll still finish in the top four based purely on the work I’ve seen on the pitch and you can see what Erik ten Hag wants from his players and I do believe they’ll qualify for the Champions League.

“In my opinion, Newcastle United deserve to finish in the top four this season alongside Manchester United. Tottenham, as always, have had a lot of ups and downs but they’re still there, hanging around.

“Liverpool are also in the race and they shouldn’t be underestimated but I certainly believe Manchester United will be one of the teams that will qualify for Champions League football.”
