Oscar-winning actress Lupita Nyong’o (12 Years a Slave, Black Panther) will serve as president of the International Jury.

The four-woman, three-man jury will screen the competition titles at this year’s Berlinale and select the winners of the 2024 festival, including the Golden Bear for best film. The winners of the 74th Berlinale will be announced live at a gala ceremony in Berlin on Saturday, Feb. 24.

Petzold is probably the most familiar face for Berlinale audiences. The German director has had 6 films in competition in Berlin, most recently Afire, which won the Silver Bear grand jury prize last year.

Hui has appeared in Berlin competition twiche, with Summer Snow in 1995 and Ordinary Heroes in 1999.

Albert Serra is more familiar to Cannes crowds, where his features Pacifiction (2022) and Liberté (2019) have premiered. Serra’s feature Story of My Death, a drama about a meeting between Casanova and Count Dracula, took the top prize for best film at the Locarno Film Festival in 2013.

Trinca was a European Shooting Star for Italy at the 2007 Berlinale but is arguably best known for her work in Nanni Moretti’s Palme d’Or winner The Son’s Room (2001) and the 2017 feature Fortunata from Sergio Castellitto, which won her the Un Certain Regard prize in Cannes as best actress.

Actor-turned-director Brady Corbet had its breakthrough as a director with his sophomore effort film, Vox Lux, starring Natalie Portman, which premiered in Venice in 2018. He is currently in post-production on the architect drama The Brutalist starring Adrien Brody, Felicity Jones, and Guy Pearce.

Oksana Zabuzhko is an acclaimed novelist, poet and activist. In 2022 became the first person who is neither a political, official or an EU citizen to address a plenary session of the European parliament, in which she called on Europeans to support Ukraine in its war against Russia.

The 2024 Berlinale kicks off on Feb. 15 with the world premiere and in-competition screening of Small Things Like These from director Tim Mielants. The Irish drama stars Oppenheimer Oscar hopeful Cillian Murphy in a period drama set in 1980s Ireland and centered on abuses carried out by the Catholic Church.

The Berlin Film Festival lineup this year also includes movies featuring the likes of Rooney Mara, Isabelle Huppert, Renate Reinsve, Sebastian Stan and Gael Garcia Bernal.
