Manchester City star Bernardo Silva has revealed a decision on his future has been reached amid long-standing links with both Barcelona and PSG.
The future of the Portuguese star has been the subject of some strong speculation for large periods of the summer. The 28-year-old star has been heavily linked with both European heavyweights as they look to prise him away from the Etihad. But despite the interest, City have refused to buckle and have strongly stuck by their apparent £84m asking price.
With three years left on his deal, City are under no pressure to sell a player who has improved year on year under Pep Guardiola. Indeed, he brought up a half century of goals for the Cityzens in Saturday’s 4-2 comeback win against Crystal Palace.
In total, Silva also has 39 assists for the club – giving him a goal involvement every 2.8 appearances for the Blues. He was also named City’s Player of the Year in 2018/19.
A really special player, it’s little wonder to see both Barcelona and PSG push to sign him.
Indeed, links with Barca refused to go away with respected Spanish journalist Gerard Romero claiming they had the funds to make the deal happen.
Romero even went as far as saying the two clubs had agreed a fee, with the deal dependent on Barca gaining financial clearance.
Ultimately, though, their move was never forthcoming and Silva has revealed he now plans to stay at City.
“I am staying at Manchester City. I haven’t received any offers, and the decision has been made,” he said.
Guardiola delighted to keep Bernardo Silva
News of Silva’s commitment to the City cause will undoubtedly please Guardiola.
The City boss, however, was always unmoved over suggestions the club could cash in on the former Monaco man.
“He will stay here. Absolutely.
“We don’t have any phone call from any club regarding Bernardo Silva, so he is staying,” Guardiola said, via the Manchester Evening News.
With the Barcelona rumours now put to bed, Silva can focus on helping City push to win a fifth Premier League title in six seasons at City.
Silva has also won the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup four times. But the one that has eluded him is the Champions League and that is the trophy he will most hope to win with City this season.
