The Toshiba UL2063 could well be the best specified 4K TV we’ve seen for under £500.

Positively bristling with features, it boasts a striking 4K HDR picture performance, has Freeview Play for easy catch-up TV and even works with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa.

The UL2063 comes in a wide range of screen sizes, but our focus here is on the entry-level 43-incher, small enough to work in any room, and for those that like things super-sized, the cinematic 55-incher.

But they look equally slick. The style is gloss black, with two widely spaced feet, with a thin fashionable bezel.

There’s a trio of HDMI inputs on the back, which allow you to connect to TV boxes, games consoles and the like.

The set uses Toshiba own smart platform, which is stripped but effective.

Why we love it

One of the things we like about this set is that it’s really easy to live with.

All of your streaming apps are accessed from a launcher bar at the bottom of the screen. Streaming apps include popular streaming service like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and YouTube. Catch-up TV is available from BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All 4, My5, and UKTV Play.

The Freeview Play programme guide rolls back 7 days, so you can browse for shows you might have missed.

To make life even simpler, the set comes with a chunky remote control, with dedicated buttons for Prime Video, Netflix and Freeview Play.

Pictures are super sharp and vibrant. Toshiba has crammed more image enhancement technologies into this particular range than any of its predecessors (including the similar looking U2963), and it shows.

In addition to razor-sharp 4K detail, there’s micro dimming and HDR support, which adds a naturalistic sense of depth to its pictures.

Dolby Vision HDR is particularly impressive, looking great with movies and TV shows on Netflix.
