“My Best Moment From Indian Cricket Is When I Received Test Cap From MS Dhoni” – Stuart Binny

The former Indian cricketer Stuart Binny who is famously known for his best bowling figures for India in ODIs has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket.

Stuart Binny represented India in 23 international games. He played six Tests, 14 ODIs, and 3 T20Is for India. Also, he played a lot of domestic cricket mainly for his home state Karnataka. 2013-14 is regarded as his best year as he scored 443 runs at an average of 43.22 and picked 14 wickets. Overall, he bagged 146 first-class wickets and scored 4796 first-class runs. Binny was selected for India tour Bangladesh in 2014, where he picked 6 wickets for 4 runs which is the best bowling figure for India in ODI format.

After announcing his retirement on Monday Stuart Binny spoke to Asianet Newsable and talked about his journey. When asked about his best moment he told it was receiving a Test cap from legendary Indian captain MS Dhoni.

“I think my best moment from Indian cricket is when I received my Test cap from MS Dhoni at Nottingham. That’s the moment which I would cherish the most.”: Binny told

When the former Indian all-rounder was asked about what advice did Dhoni give him. He said Dhoni told him to back his instinct and assured him that he will do good.

“He told me that I had deserved this opportunity and that I had performed consistently well in the Ranji Trophy for three-four seasons. And obviously, if you can do it in the Ranji Trophy, it is just a matter of believing that I could do well in Test cricket as well. He also assured me that I had the full support of the Indian team, and he wanted me to go out and express myself.”: Stuart Binny

“To be a part of a World Cup squad was very, very special to me” – Stuart Binny

Further, Binny was asked about missing out on all the games in the 2015 Cricket World Cup. To which 37-year-old replied he doesn’t regret missing out on matches and he was grateful to be part of the squad. Stuart Binny stated:

“No. I think, first and foremost, to be a part of a World Cup squad was very, very special to me. At that time, I believe I was at the peak of my performances as well. I had done well in the short games that I had been to Bangladesh and played the Asia Cup as well just before the World Cup.”

Further, the former all-rounder revealed that he was ready to play the World Cup games as the management told him chance might. However, he revealed that he didn’t make a balance in the team, which resulted in him missing on playing XI. Also, he mentioned being around the World Cup team was special to him. Stuart Binny asserted:

“I was always ready to play in that World Cup. I was told that the chance might come at any stage. It’s just that I didn’t make the balance of the team at that point time. So, being around the World Cup team was special to me. Being around in the dressing room and to say that I have been in the World Cup was special to me. And, I have learnt a lot playing against other teams, not only at the Asia Cup. I also learnt how the other teams went around during the World Cup and the pressure that comes while playing the tournament.”
