Best winter coats for women 2021 to keep warm in style

 (Zara | Adidas)
(Zara | Adidas)

The weather is turning but don’t worry, there’s a silver lining to that incoming storm cloud - the chance to don some fabulous new season coats.

When the classic British weather resumes its true rainy style, we take our cue to get as cosy as possible, layering up with the appropriate outerwear.

Cocoon in style with this season’s best winter coats – and when it comes to choosing the perfect one to see you through, you can’t go wrong with an A-line, puffer, trench, faux fur or leather jacket – the mainstay of coat silhouettes.

While these classic styles will always be en vogue, they have been given a contemporary twist to reflect the times. Cast your mind back to this time last year when the collections were conceived and it will come as no surprise that dopamine dressing is the MO for designers everywhere. From high end to the high street, there’s been a shift to colourful dressing – no doubt to counter the monotony of the never-ending lockdowns.

Tired of the same monochromatic dressing during our confinement, our outerwear has had a colourful overhaul to reflect a more positive outlook with brighter, bolder and more retina-searing hues forming the mood-boosting fashion we need this winter.

Shop the best winter styles to brave the elements this season.

Puffer jackets

Adidas by Stella McCartney Earth Protector Sleeping Bag Puffer Jacket

This new puffer as part of Stella McCartney’s on-going design collaboration with Adidas is all about the technical features. Whether you are expeditioning across the Antarctic or simply commuting in a British thunderstorm (just as treacherous, in our view), this coat will keep you bone dry and scores major style points at the same time. The aptly named Sleeping Bag jacket is made for duvet days when you don’t want to leave your nest. The cocoon-like design keeps you warm with synthetic padding and recycled materials - a bed on legs, if you will. Peach and white offer deliciously mood-boosting effects.

The North Face Saikuru cropped jacket in black

Okay, so this cropped design may not be best at keeping your midriff toasty, but in the hallowed words of ANTM’s Jay Manuel “in the world of fashion, nothing is ever comfortable”. Besides, what it lacks in waist, it makes up for in neck: the piece is padded out with a funnel neck to keep out the cold up top and the versatile colour makes it an easy throw-on-and-go addition to any ensemble.

Faux fur jackets

Shrimps Filbert Faux Fur Jacket

No sour grapes here. In fact, quite the opposite. For British label Shrimps, faux fur coats are the foundation of the label – some of the first pieces founder Hannah Weiland created and how the brand found its acclaim. Each year, the collection seems to top the previous both with playful prints and decadent materials. This piece is made from a sumptuously soft faux fur with a ‘Climbing Grapes’ print. Honourable mention also goes to the label’s Colonel faux trimmed beauty for its boardroom to bar appeal.
