Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has hoped for better wickets for the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand considering the preparations for the T20 Worldcup in UAE. Bangladesh has been in a purple patch with their first-ever bilateral series win over Australia recently and they dominated the series 3-1.
The wickets offered a lot of spin as Bangladesh packed their playing XI with a lot of spinners and managed to win the low-scoring games. However, it might not be the same case in UAE where the fast bowlers have thrived a lot more than the spinners and Oman consists of batting-friendly wickets which might haunt Bangladesh in the end.
Shakib Feels T20s Should Take Place in Good Wickets
Shakib-Al- Hasan mentioned that T20s generally take place on good wickets for the entertainment factor and also it could benefit their preparations for the T20 World Cup 2021. He stressed the importance of winning at home at whatever cost and added that Bangladesh needs to adapt to any wickets quickly.
“Wherever T20s are played, it is usually played on a good wicket. Maybe it would benefit us more (preparation-wise for ICCWT20) if we could play in a better wicket against New Zealand,”
“It is up to the team management to decide on what type of wicket they want to play before going there. Whatever it is, we have to adapt. Since the game is in our country, there is no chance to make excuses,” Shakib was quoted as saying by Daily Samakal.
Nature Of The Wickets Could Not Help My Batting Form, Reckons Shakib
Shakib mentioned that he wanted to get into good batting form ahead of the T20 World cup with someone or two big innings in the series against New Zealand. He regretted his performance in Zimbabwe and was confident about scoring big in the New Zealand series provided the better wickets come into play.
“Naturally I will try to go into the T20 World Cup in good shape and that had always been the case but I don’t think there are too many problems in batting,”
“I feel playing one or two big innings will bring me back into my groove. There was no scope to score big against Australia due to the nature of the wicket and so it would not be wise to count those five matches. There were opportunities in Zimbabwe that I could not take.
“If there is a ‘better wicket’ in the New Zealand series then I will try to play big innings,” he added.
Shakib AL Hasan finished as the man of the series against Australia as he was brilliant with the ball throughout the wins
