Bianca Andreescu admitted that she was blown away by how good Iga Swiatek is after the Canadian suffered a straight sets loss to the World No 1 at Indian Wells.

Andreescu did her best to raise her game and hang with the best in the world but conceded that Swiatek was simply too good on the night.

The former US Open champion is no pushover and managed to force a second set tiebreaker but the clinical game of Swiatek won the day.

“I know that my game was definitely going to level up to hers,” Andreescu said in the wake of the defeat.

“I knew she was going to play well but I didn’t know she was going to play that well, but that’s what you have to expect from the World No.1.”

Andreescu was left to marvel at the control from Swiatek, who is likely delighted with the heavier balls and slower courts baked in the desert sun.

In almost clay-court-esque conditions, there are few players who will be able to match Swiatek if she is on her game.

Andreescu assesed the World No 1: “She literally does not miss. You could hit any shot in the world and she literally will not miss. She’ll find a way to get to it, she’ll put it where she exactly wants it.”

Andreescu may have competed well in the second set, but things didn’t go to plan in the tiebreaker as the Pole blew past her and into the Round of 16.

“Complete domination,” Andreescu said when asked about that tiebreak.

“I did not feel like I played much less than I played the whole match. She just pounced on every ball. I think I missed two shots.”

Swiatek was delighted to get some sort of competitive match, feeling that this contest will stand her in good stead going forward.

“It was a really tight match, and I’m really happy that I actually played such a tight match because now I see how I can handle those situations after a couple of matches that were kind of one way.

“I think we both played well. I’m happy that in those important moments, I was the one that was more solid.”

Andreescu will get to rest and reload for the Miami Open, which starts next week.

Meanwhile, Swiatek goes on to the Round of 16 and a second WTA Tour meeting with Emma Raducanu.
