BIATHLON 2013 Ostersund - Martin Fourcade

It comes as a huge upswing in form for the Frenchman, who cost his nation a podium place in the mixed relay on Sunday after being penalised for not using one of his spare rounds.

And it could not have been made in more emphatic style – shooting a perfect 20/20 as Austrian Simon Eder finished second.

The chasing pack were not so easily separated however, Eder holding off compatriot Daniel Mesotitsch by 14 seconds and finishing with one shooting error apiece.

In fourth place, Canadian Jean-Philippe Le Guellec produced a fine showing but missed one target on the last leg to deny him a silver medal.

And Daniel Boehm pipped Lukas Hofer to fifth by just one tenth of a second, the latter alongside Fourcade the only competitor to shoot a perfect race.
