Christiansen had earlier opened his account at the championships with gold in the junior men’s 10km sprint before settling for silver in the junior men’s 12.5km pursuit.

Russian Alexandr Loginov, who won sprint silver on Friday, turned the tables in the pursuit to take first place, however Christiansen proved he is the man of the moment currently following the relay.

His Norwegian quarter, also including Thekla Brun-Lie, Marion Roenning Huber and Johannes Boe, brother of Olympic and three-time world champion Tarjei, clocked a winning time of one hour 14 minutes 48.1 seconds.

That came after nine penalties in the range, all in the standing shot, with Loginov’s Russian quartet recording ten to trail home in second place 43.8 seconds behind in 1:15:31.9.

Ukraine, like the Russians, accrued ten penalties in the standing shot but couldn’t match their speed on skis as they took bronze a further two minutes behind.
