Biathlon - Russia call up junior champion for Nove Mesto

World junior champion Olga Podchufarova has been called up to the full Russian squad for the World Championships in Nove Mesto.

Podchufarova, 21, won pursuit gold and sprint silver at the recent youth event in Obertilliach.

And her efforts have been rewarded with a call-up to the senior team for the upcoming championships in the Czech Republic, which run from February 7 to 17.

"According to Podchufarova's results at the junior world championship in Obertilliach and this season, the coaching staff has decided to include her to the women’s team for the World Championship in Nove Mesto,” RBU vice-president Viktor Maigurov said.

“Head coach of the women’s team Wolfgang Pichler thinks that she needs to have this opportunity to be with the national team and have competition practice at the highest level, to develop fighting qualities."

Podchufarova will join more seasoned pros such as Olga Zaitseva in the women's team, while Dmitry Rusinov has been omitted from the men's team.

Men: Evgeny Ustyugov, Anton Shipulin, Dmitry Malyshko, Evgeny Garanichev, Andrey Makoveev, Alexey Volkov, Alexander Pechenkin.
