The Big Ten Conference has confirmed that the college football season will resume on 24 October.

The Big Ten postponed all fall sports on 11 August, including football, over concerns about Covid-19.

The league's presidents and chancellors voted 11-3 to postpone and only Nebraska, Ohio State and Iowa opted to proceed.

To play a fall season, at least 60 per cent of the presidents and chancellors (nine or more) would need to vote in favour.

And the league's entire council of presidents and chancellors spent several hours on Sunday with members of the return-to-competition task force to thrash out terms over scheduling and television.

Ohio State (No 2) and Penn State (No 7) were among six Big Ten teams in the widely respected AP pre-season football poll.
