Bills offensive tackle Cyrus Kouandjio was taken to a hospital for observation earlier this week when he was found after climbing over an electric fence, The Buffalo News reported.
Not far from the scene of an automobile accident in Elma, N.Y., police encountered Kouandjio partially clothed in a field. When police tried to detain Kouandjio, he yelled at them, "Shoot me!"
Kouandjio, 23, was not arrested but instead was transported to Erie County Medical Center.
"We are aware of the matter involving Cyrus and are carefully monitoring his condition and gathering more information," the Bills said in a statement. "We don't have all of the details, so we won't have any further comment at this time."
Kouandjio's vehicle was found abandoned on the side of the road, which prompted a search in the surrounding area. According to the News, police suspect that when Kouandjio saw flashing lights from police and emergency vehicles responding to a separate incident, he pulled off on the side of the road and took off into the field.
The 6-foot-7, 322-pound Kouandjio was not at the Bills' minicamp Thursday.
