Bills rookie QB Jake Fromm apologizes for 'elite white people' text-message comment
Buffalo Bills rookie quarterback Jake Fromm apologized for using the phrase “elite white people” in a text-message thread that was posted to Twitter by an unknown user.

“I am extremely sorry that I chose to use the words “elite white people” in a text message conversation. Although I never meant to imply that I am an “elite white person,” as stated later in the conversation, there’s no excuse for that word choice and sentiment. While it was poor, my heart is not. Now, more than ever, is the time for support and togetherness and I stand against racism 100%. I promise to commit myself to being a part of the solution in this country. I addressed my teammates and coaches in a team meeting today and I hope they see this incident is not representative of the person I am. Again, I’m truly sorry for my words and actions and humbly ask for forgiveness.”
Fromm responded with the tweet after a user named @ashleymp20 posted on Twitter Wednesday night a screenshot of what apparently was a conversation between her and Fromm back in 2019.

Although the context of the conversation is difficult to decipher, Fromm said “Just make them [guns] very expensive so only elite white people can get them haha,” followed by a tense exchange over his use of the phrase.
Who the person is, what their relationship to Fromm is and what was contained in the remainder of the conversation is unknown.
The Buffalo Bills released a statement Thursday saying Fromm was “honest and forthcoming” about the text exchange and that he apologized to teammates and coaches. They also pledged to “continue to work with Jake on the responsibilities of being a Buffalo Bill on and off the field.”

In addition, Bills defensive coordinator and assistant head coach Leslie Frazier spoke to media on Thursday and addressed the Fromm situation. Frazier said the rookie QB was “very sincere in his apology” to the team and that “there are a number of us, at some point or another, especially in our youth, who made some mistakes.”

Fromm, who started for most of the past three years at Georgia, was a fifth-round pick of the Bills (167th overall) in April.
This incident comes on the heels of New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees apologizing publicly and to his teammates for comments he made about national anthem protests the day before.
