Birmingham City midfielder Luke Harris has been forced to withdraw from international duty with Wales due to illness.

The Fulham loanee was called up to the senior squad by Craig Bellamy following a number of withdrawals and looked set to make his debut in their fixtures against Turkey and Iceland. But Wales have now confirmed that Harris has had to leave their camp.

A brief statement on Wales' official X account reads: "Luke Harris has been forced to withdraw from the upcoming matches due to illness."

Blues will hope Harris has shaken off his illness in time for their meeting with Shrewsbury Town next weekend. The 19-year-old has only recently returned from a two-month lay-off due to an ankle injury to reclaim his spot in Chris Davies' squad.

Harris, who spent last season on loan at Exeter City in League One, has played eight games across all competitions for Blues. The teenager's only goal for Blues came against Wycombe Wanderers on his first league start in August.

“He's obviously got a lot of energy, makes good runs, is two footed, so he's always got a sense of goal. He works hard," Davies said of Harris' return to the starting line-up in the FA Cup win at Sutton United recently.
