Birmingham City can remove loanee to make room for two January signings
Birmingham City didn’t max out their squad at the end of the summer transfer window – meaning Chris Davies has room for additions in January.
Blues filled 21 of the 22 permitted spaces in their League One squad list when it was submitted to the EFL in September. They have 14 homegrown players, six more than the minimum requirement of eight.
The club can therefore add a player of any nationality to their squad during the January transfer window. But Blues could also free up a space by removing Tyler Roberts from their list. The Wales international is on loan at Northampton Town but remains on Blues’ squad list.

Blues have a decision to make on Alfie Chang in the window after omitting him from the squad in September. Chang, 22, recently returned to training after a lengthy lay-off due to a serious knee injury and could play under-21 minutes before January.

Chang will find first team opportunities hard to come by with Paik Seung-ho, Tomoki Iwata, Marc Leonard and Taylor Gardner-Hickman jostling for two positions.
Blues’ squad is well stocked after a summer spending spree which saw them sign 17 new players and it feels as though their January business will largely depend on potential outgoings. Dion Sanderson, who has only played five games in all competitions this term, is among those being linked with a move away from St Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park.
Blues’ current squad list
Keshi Anderson, Krystian Bielik, Lee Buchanan, Alex Cochrane, Ben Davies, Lyndon Dykes, Taylor Gardner-Hickman, Emil Hansson, Tomoki Iwata, Lukas Jutkiewicz, Christoph Klarer, Ethan Laird, Marc Leonard, Alfie May, Paik Seung-ho, Tyler Roberts (out on loan), Alfons Sampsted, Dion Sanderson, Jay Stansfield, Willum Willumsson, Scott Wright.
