Leigh coach Adrian Lam has hailed their new recruit Blake Ferguson as “one of the biggest signings” the club has ever made.
The former Australia international, 32, has joined the promotion-chasing Centurions for the remainder of the 2022 season.
Ferguson has won seven caps for the Kangaroos as well as appearing for New South Wales nine times in the State of Origin arena.
Speaking to Love Rugby League, Leigh coach Lam said: “He brings a lot of experience, is a big body and he has been there and done it.
“As a team it is one of our biggest signings of all-time. There is a big buzz around town at the moment. I know a lot of fans are talking about it around town so I’m sure they’ll get up over the next week or two.
“There is no better time for him to arrive because our team is full of confidence at the moment.
“He doesn’t lack confidence and self belief, he is a very lively character which he has already showed at training. What he will bring to this team will hopefully take us to another level.”
Blake Ferguson poised debut this weekend
Lam dropped a hint that he could hand a debut to his newest signing Ferguson in Sunday’s 1895 Cup semi-final against Sheffield.
He said: “He is certainly a player that we need in these big games.
“Looking at his statistics, this would be his 250th first-grade game so that is massive news for the club and for rugby league in this country.
“We are very excited about that and we will give him every opportunity this week to be available to play on Sunday.”
If they beat Sheffield on Sunday, the Centurions will meet the winner of Featherstone and Barrow in the final at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on May 28.
Lam said: “We need to get the victory first and foremost but to get to Tottenham in front of 60,000 people would be amazing for the club and the fans.”
