Borussia Dortmund are reportedly ‘still hopeful’ that their star midfielder Jude Bellingham will sign a new contract with the club despite interest from several top European clubs.

The 19-year-old England international has performed admirably for club and country since leaving Birmingham City in 2020 and is now one of the hottest properties in world football.

Liverpool were considered the big favourites to sign Bellingham at the end of the season, so if he does pen a new deal in Germany it will be a huge blow for Jurgen Klopp.

Indeed, since departing his boyhood club, Bellingham has achieved unparalleled success for such a young player.

Overall, the Englishman has scored 19 goals and made 21 assists for Dortmund, also captaining the Bundesliga giants on multiple occasions.

As mentioned, he was also one of Gareth Southgate’s star players at the World Cup, helping his country to reach the quarter-finals.

It has been widely reported that Bellingham is keen on a move to the Premier League at the end of the season, but this has been put in doubt after these recent developments.

According to Sports Mole, the youngster’s entourage was scheduled to meet with Dortmund’s hierarchy to discuss his future before the squad flew to Marbella for a mid-season training camp.

Liverpool, Man City and Man Utd still in Bellingham race despite contract talks

However, the same article notes that Dortmund are 95% certain Bellingham will ask to leave at the end of the season. But with him under contract until 2025, they are not necessarily under immediate pressure to sell.

It’s no surprise that Dortmund would be keen to keep hold of their star man. But despite them vying for a new deal, Bellingham’s lucrative price tag may still force them to let him leave.

As mentioned, Liverpool are currently leading the race to sign the in-demand Englishman, but Manchester City and Manchester United are also heavily linked to him.

Klopp has been scouring the market for a new central midfielder after Fabinho’s form has been inconsistent recently and while Harvey Elliot looks set to become a fantastic player, he still needs time to develop his game.

As for Manchester City, Ilkay Gundogan’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season, so Pep Guardiola may look for a long-term replacement who can compete with Rodri and Kalvin Phillips. Bellingham would certainly be an excellent option.

Finally, Manchester United are looking to reinstate themselves as serial title contenders once again and any world-class players they can bring in for next season will undoubtedly help Erik ten Hag achieve that.

The clear issue for all three teams though is Bellingham’s huge price tag, with Transfermarkt valuing him at a staggering £110m.

However, if a bidding war takes place for the English wonderkid, the eventual fee could end up being even higher.
