SOUTHEND United head coach Kevin Maher insists Blues will continue to carefully manage Jack Bridge’s return to action.

The winger, who has been out since November, played 45 minutes for the Shrimpers’ under 23 side against Colchester United on Tuesday night.

And Maher is keen to ensure Bridge is fully up to speed before returning to the first team squad.

“Jack did 45, which was always the plan,” said Maher.

“He had quite a long time out with the injury and he’s had Covid as well so he’s stepped back.

“We’ll manage him properly so when he’s back he will be firing on all cylinders.”
