Arndt clearly enjoys racing on the German track, claiming victory there in last season's event.

And the World Championship silver medallist was at it again as with his team of Marko Huebenbecker, Alexander Roediger and Martin Putze the German's clocked a total time of 1:51.26 for the win.

This was 0.6 seconds ahead of compatriot Manuel Machata, with Thomas Florschuetz ensuring there was a German on every step of the podium as he finished third.

Arndt's victory propelled him to the top of the overall World Cup standings, 29 points ahead of Alexander Zubkov after the Russian was not in action in Altenberg, with Machata in third.

Great Britain's team led by John James Jackson could only manage 11th in Alternberg as they stay fifth in the overall standings.
