The Russian headed to German with three victories under his belt but was in no mood to relinquish top spot.

And he didn't disappoint as along with Alexey Negodaylo, Dmitry Trunenkov and Maxim Mokrousov recorded a total time of 1:50.06 minutes for the win.

Zubkov and his team are now 112 points ahead of nearest challengers America, lead by Steven Holcomb, in the overall World Cup standings after they could only manage fifth in Winterberg.

Finishing 0.19 seconds behind Zubkov was the German team led by Maximilian Arndt, while Latvia's Oskars Melbardis was third.

Junior Arndt and his team are now third in the overall standings, leapfrogging compatriot Manuel Machata after he could only finish ninth.

And sitting fifth overall is the Great British team led by John James Jackson after their promising season continued in Germany with an eighth-place finish.
