New Chelsea owner Todd Boehly and his consortium will hand manager Thomas Tuchel full transfer power at the club, according to a report.

Following months of unease over the Blues’ future, Boehly has finally got his takeover from Roman Abramovich over the line. And he wants to hit the ground running to get Chelsea back to their previous heights.

The main aim is to win the Premier League again. Indeed, Antonio Conte was the last man to bring the title to Stamford Bridge in 2017.

There is also a desire to get over the line in a domestic cup final. Chelsea lost their third FA Cup final in a row last season and also fell at the last hurdle in the Carabao Cup showpiece.

As a result, The Telegraph reports that Boehly has sanctioned a move which he hopes will bring the club closer to Liverpool and Manchester City.

In a similar way to how last season’s top two are run, Boehly will hand Blues manager Tuchel full control over transfers.

His voice will therefore become the ‘loudest’ over incomings and outgoings and first-team football decisions.

Indeed, Boehly and the Chelsea owners feel that Tuchel is the club’s ‘biggest asset’ and want to exploit that.

Boehly subsequently promised in a recent meeting that he will do all he can to do what Tuchel wants.

The move from Boehly could have a big impact on the future of Romelu Lukaku at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea spent a club-record £97.5million on him last summer but he reportedly wants to return to Inter.

He spoke out against Tuchel’s tactics in December, blaming the German for his lack of match action.

If Tuchel wants him gone this summer, Boehly and his partners will do all they can to make it happen.

On the flipside, the consortium will also listen to Tuchel’s plans for new signings. Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele is set to become a free agent when his contract expires at the end of June.

While he has endured several injury problems in recent years – some long-term – Tuchel worked with the Frenchman at Borussia Dortmund and could sanction his arrival despite the risks.

Chelsea have more pressing concerns

However, the biggest transfer concern for Chelsea right now is their defence.

They are losing centre-backs Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen and need replacements in.

Sevilla’s Jules Kounde is a top target, with RB Leipzig’s Josko Gvardiol also admired by Tuchel.

The departures of Rudiger and Christensen mean that Thiago Silva is currently the most senior Chelsea defender. At 37, though, he does not have much longer at the top level.

Behind the Brazilian, Malang Sarr and Trevoh Chalobah are options.
