Co-owner Todd Boehly has admitted that he has “learned a lot” this season and he thinks Chelsea will come good once his regime “figures it out”.

Boehly’s consortium completed its takeover of Chelsea ahead of this season. He has been quick to make an impact as the club have spent over £500m on new signings this campaign.

This heavy spending has not resulted in immediate success as Chelsea have endured a miserable season. Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter were both sacked and now Frank Lampard has returned to the club on an interim basis.

The Blues have somehow got worse since Lampard’s return. Under him, Chelsea have lost six games in a row and they are 12th in the Premier League with five games to go.

Chelsea are likely to appoint Mauricio Pochettino as Potter’s permanent successor and ahead of his second season at the club, Boehly has responded to the club’s “demanding supporters.

“It’s such a global sport and unlike in the U.S. there are no unions,” Boehly said at the Milken Institute Global Conference.

“So there’s a market for top players in every country in the world and each one of those markets is different. You’ve got the Portuguese market and the French market and the English market.

“Then of course obviously you have to build a team and your coach is the conductor of the team, so I think there’s a lot that we’ve learned about the different markets. The global aspect of it all and, as you said, the fans are demanding.”

Boehly is also confident that they are “going to figure it out” so his “long-term project” will be successful.

“You know they want to win and we get that we want to win so you know I think our view though was that this is a long-term project and you know we’re committed to the long-term,” he added.

“We very much believe that we’re going to figure it out. We’ve got the best league in the world, we’ve got what I think is the top city in the world and we’ve got an unbelievable location in the top city in the world.”

Boehly has ruffled a few feathers this season and Man Utd legend Gary Neville thinks the Chelsea owner has “had a nightmare”.

“It’s been chaotic, a mess since day one. Boehly has had a nightmare and has misread this league. I’m sure he’ll learn quickly. What has happened this season is purely down to him,” Neville told Sky Sports.

“He needed to keep the footballing department together. He’s the non-footballing department. You’re the owner. You’re not a player or a coach. You’ve got no experience in this league so stay where you are and allow the people to run the football club [who have done so] successfully over the last 10 years.”
