Torquay United had to settle for a point at Boreham Wood this afternoon in a game that was played in horrible conditions. Torquay's defence and goalkeeper James Hamon did well to keep the home side out, but Cody Cooke saw little of the ball up front and was frustrated by the lack of service from the men in the middle and on the wings.

A clean sheet is not to be sniffed at, but another goalless draw - a second in three consecutives draws in the league - is not the kind of form the fans will be happy with.

However, with leaders Weston-super-Mare coming to Plainmoor on Tuesday, the Gulls are still fourth in the National League South table - though six points behind their visitors.

There were three changes to the team that started the FA Trophy win against Truro City, with Sam Dreyer, Will Jenkins Davies, Omar Mussa coming in for Ed Palmer, Matt Carson and Keke Jeffers, who were all on the bench. It was wet and windy at Meadow Park where the game was played on one of the best pitches in the National League South.

Charles Clayden sent a wind-assisted shot over the bar in the seventh minute - but it was an even match early on. A Jon Benton shot from the edge of the area was well wide of Hamon's goal. Torquay mounted a couple of good attacks but there was nothing resembling a shot at the end of them. A drive by Clayden went into the side-netting in the 18th minute.

Mussa had Torquay's first shot on target with Nathan Ashmore stopping his 22nd minute drive. Benton shot wide at the other end a minute later after a great block by Jordan Dyer. A shot at the end of a burst by Jenkins Davies went just wide. Hamon turned a shot by Jayden Richardson around the post as the rain got heavier.

As Torquay built well down the right in the 41st minute, Clayden flew into a tackle on Jordan Thomas. Mussa's dangerous ball into the box from the free kick was cleared.

In the conditions, Torquay will have been pleased to keep Boreham out in the first half - and with the wind back at their backs in the second, they will have been hoping for more chances to get at the home team. A challenge on Dan Hayfield earned Torquay a free kick in the 51st minute with Mussa sending the ball into the box and Dreyer heading it over after a rebound. A couple of inswinging corners by Jordan Young caused problems for the Boreham defence with Ashmore punching away the second.

A shot from distance by Mussa hit Young and went wide. Richardson couldn't get a clean connection on a good chance for Boreham in the 62nd minute. In the 66th minute Lirak Hasani came on for Mussa just before Hamon made a great save to deny Lee Ndlovu at the back post. Carson came on for Jenkins Davies in the 70th minute and immediately looked dangerous down the left, linking up well with Hasani and putting in some good crosses. Hamon denied Richardson at the other end, closing down the angle well.

For Torquay, Cooke shot over the bar from distance. Hasani drilled a low shot straight at Ashmore. A shot by Josh Hare was collected by Hamon. As the game entered the last 10 minutes, Boreham were attacking better than Torquay - but the defence were doing well to keep them out.

With five minutes to go, Keke Jeffers came on for Young and immediately won a corner. Carson's cross was headed goalwards by Dreyer but the ball was turned around the post by Ashmore. After another corner, Richardson could only find Torquay's side-netting on the break. Jack Paine shot straight at Hamon.

Two minutes were added on - but it was a point shared. On to Tuesday night, then - and that big game against Weston, under the lights at Plainmoor.
