Newcastle United will still be missing some key players for their big week of league and cup games, with Eddie Howe not expecting any injury boosts in the near future.

The Magpies face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League on Sunday, before the two sides go head-to-head on Wednesday night back at St James' Park in the Carabao Cup. That's followed by the visit of Arsenal next Saturday, but unless United pick up any fresh injuries, it's likely to be the same squad for the three big games.

Lewis Miley returned to the squad for the game with Brighton last weekend, the first time he's been available this season, while Alexander Isak has continued to build his fitness following a spell on the sidelines with a broken toe. Here's how the Newcastle injury situation currently looks.

Callum Wilson

Injury: Back

The United No 9 has been able to play just six times in 2024, with a back problem picked up in pre-season keeping him on the sidelines. Howe had hoped he would have featured by now but confirmed he won't be available for the Chelsea double-header or next weekend's game with Arsenal.

What Howe has said: "We’re going to lose Callum for the next three games. He’s just had some tightness and felt he hasn’t been able to kick on to the last part. He’s got no injury of such, he just isn’t ready to come back yet."

Possible return date: Mid-November

Kieran Trippier

Injury: Hamstring

The United full-back was forced off in the second half at Everton with a hamstring injury and will miss several games. Tino Livramento came into the side against Brighton, with the youngster set for a run in the side.

What Howe has said: "Kieran has picked up a hamstring problem. It’s probably nothing too serious, but it will keep him out for a few weeks."

Possible return date: Mid-November

Martin Dubravka

Injury: Knee

The experienced goalkeeper was caught by AFC Wimbledon striker Omar Bugiel in the Carabao Cup third-round tie and was forced off at half-time. While the injury is not thought to be serious, he has not featured on the bench in recent games.

What Howe has said: "Martin Dubravka’s taken a nasty bang to his knee, we hope he’s all right."

Possible return date: Mid-November

Sven Botman

Injury: ACL

The Dutch defender is closing in on a return after missing almost nine months following ACL surgery. However, he won't be rushed back with Howe confirming Botman won't return until the Christmas period.

What Howe has said: "He’s hitting the right strength markers, he’s looking really good. We probably won’t see him training until after the next international break. He is closing in but it’s a long road. The reality is we’re probably looking more towards Christmas time."

Possible return date: Late December

Jamaal Lascelles

Injury: ACL

Like fellow central defender Botman, Lascelles is nearing the end of the long road to recovery following knee surgery. The club captain could be back before the end of the year, but again, won't be rushed.

What Howe has said: "Hopefully, some good news is on the horizon with Lascelles and Botman, but until they're back fully, it's difficult to promise that."

Possible return date: Late December

Matt Targett

Injury: Eczema

The full-back has had a difficult time of it of late, with Howe explaining he has been suffering with the skin complaint.

What Howe has said: "Matt had a flare-up of eczema, so he's been nursing that the last couple of weeks. t's been quite a bad episode for him"

Possible return date: Unknown
