Bournemouth student to make history at beach volleyball world championship
A BOURNEMOUTH student is set to be a part of history at the World Beach Volleyball Championships this May.
Lucas Rijvers, 13, a student at Bournemouth Collegiate School, will be a part of the first England beach volleyball team to compete at the under 15 International Schools Sport Federation World Beach Volleyball Championships.
The championships will be hosted in Bat Yam, on the Mediterranean coast in Israel, taking place between May 16 and 23.
Lucas progressed through the club pathway, before achieving county, regional and national success.
Coached by his father, former GB and England volleyball player David Rijvers, Lucas was selected as the youngest member of the under 17 Volleyball England National Cadets Talent Squad in October 2022.
Lucas will be partnered with England Cadet Reese Jarmon from Surrey for the world championships.
They will be competing against 30 other countries for the gold medal, in the sixth edition of the ISF World Championships.
They are hosted every two years, with the most recent championships taking place in 2019, in Italy.
