Boxing: Bruno's comeback plans suffer an early knockout

Frank Bruno’s chances of a boxing comeback have been scuppered by the news he will not be granted a licence.

The former world heavyweight champion announced on TV this morning that he was planning to return to the ring aged 54.

But the BBC have reported that Bruno has revealed he has been told there is no way the British Boxing Board of Control will allow him to fight and will refuse him a licence.

Bruno, who has waged a very public battle against depression and mental health issues, could apply to other governing bodies but given his medical history, it is highly unlikely any of them would push the paperwork through for the hugely popular boxer.
