Last month, Smith announced that he had parted company with Queensberry, Frank Warren’s latest promotional outfit. A representative from the company insisted that Smith had no grounds to terminate the agreement. However, the Liverpudlian subsequently announced a three fight deal with Matchroom Sport, starting with the November 23rd date on which he would defend against mandatory challenger Gary Sykes.
Queensbury had formerly announced that Smith was to defend the belt against Sykes at the Liverpool Echo Arena on December 7 on a history making bill which also featured Smith’s two brothers, Paul and Liam, defending their respective super middle and light middleweight titles.
The suspension comes after Smith relinquished his British title last week after the Board insisted he should defend it on December 7 at the Echo Arena, which he is unwilling to do.
