Kathy Duva of Main Events, Kovalev's promoter, has said the fight is a 'done deal', and is to be televised live in the US on HBO.

Speaking to Sports Illustrated, Duva said: “Sergey is very excited to get the chance to win his first world title on August 17th in Wales. This cannot help but be a non-stop, all action brawl.”

Earlier this week, Cleverly's promotional team were unable to announce Kovalev as the opponent and it looked as if the match would fall through, as the IBF ordered Bernard Hopkins to begin negotiations with mandatory challenger Kovalev 'immediately'.

Kovalev told ringnews24: "I don't think anything about Nathan Cleverly, I can come out of the ring and just break him down and do my job. This is my next step up for the belt and I can go out there and do what I do."
