In a fast-paced encounter, Frampton always looked comfortable with lightning-quick jabs despite having to sustain some heavy offence from the Spaniard.

In the ninth round, he connected with a thunderous right to the nose which brought the partisan Odyssey crowd to their feet as father and son trainer duo Barry and Shane McGuigan looked on.

The victory was a 16th straight, and an 11th career knockout, for the unbeaten Northern Irish star, who could fight England's WBA interim super-bantamweight champion Scott Quigg - who watched the fight from ringside - next.

Meanwhile, Lee Selby retained the British and Commonwealth featherweight championships after defeating Belfast's Martin Lindsay by unanimous decision.

The Welshman was consistently in control of proceedings throughout with sharp and slick jabs despite Lindsay putting in a good display.

And Martin Rogan, who completes again two weeks from now in a Prizefighter tournament also featuring Audley Harrison, claimed a points win over the Czech Republic’s Ladislav Kovarik.
