The Walsall boxer, nicknamed ‘The Quiet Man’, will face the hard-hitting South American in his hometown on Friday, 31st May 2013.
The show - ‘Ready To Silence The World’ - will take place at Walsall Town Hall. “This is a massive opportunity for me,” the 29 year-old said. “I won the British title in January and now I’m one step away from a shot at the IBF crown. It’s a dream come true.
“I won’t let anybody down. He’s coming into my backyard and I’ll show him what I’m all about. The Quiet Man is going to silence the world.”
Diaz (31-11) was set to face Mexican Marvin Quintero for a chance to meet current champion, Miguel Vazquez, last week but Quintero withdrew after a broken nose required surgery.
Thanks to Gethin (24-3-1) winning the IBF International belt by defeating Carl Johanneson back in September, he is the next available contender in the IBF's rankings for the eliminator.
The Gethin-Diaz winner will become the mandatory challenger for Vazquez and a shot at the IBF title.
