According to reports, a team from the British boxer’s promotion company, Golden Boy, will head to the UAE in a few weeks to make progress on the fight.
Alexander, who was initially thought to be reluctant to fight in the UAE, also appeared to confirm that negotiations are nearing a conclusion, while Khan’s father, Shah, has said the deal is “90 per cent” completed.
Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer said last month that Dubai was the preferred location for the bout that will see the American put his IBF welterweight title on the line in a December 7 showdown.
UAE-based sports management company, EMD Sports, is working closely with Golden Boy to put on Khan’s fight with Alexander, and chairman Eisa Aldah will meet with Golden Boy chief Oscar De La Hoya in Dubai this month.
“In the middle of July, Oscar de la Hoya and his team will come over to Dubai and we will meet. They want to have a meeting with my company about how to host the fight here,” Aldah told Sport360°.
“We have all the experience of hosting events here. Perhaps not of hosting events of this size, but we can certainly help Golden Boy with our local knowledge. That is why we will have a meeting in a couple of weeks to discuss all the details.
“I spoke to Shah today and he told me that once Oscar and the Golden Boy team have completed their visit, the fight will be announced 100 per cent.”
