The pair meet at The Venue in Dudley on Friday, 3rd May 2013.

Pearce (7-1) and Eggington (4-1) struck up a friendship following their appearance on Sky Sports’ Prizefighter: The Weltereights III back in January. Hailing from Stourbridge, the pair knew of each other before but, having spent time together, bonded during the build-up and on the night of Wolverhampton Civic show.

Current champion Pearce was stopped by eventual Prizefighter winner, Glenn Foot, whilst Eggington lost a unanimous decision to finallist, Dale Evans. The pair have remained in contact since and always have a chat when their paths cross. However, on the 3rd May, the Stourbridge duo agree that friendship will go out of the window. For the fight at least.

“He’s a nice kid who I get on with but come fight night he’s the enemy,” Pearce said. “He wants what I’ve got but I won’t be letting it go.

“I’ve known of Sam since he was an amateur and we always have a chat when we’re out and about. We spent a lot of time together during Prizefighter, he’s trained at my gym a few times and we get on well.

“We’re mates outside the ring. We’ll fight and it will be strictly business but no matter which way it goes, we’ll shake hands and have a drink together afterwards I’m sure.”

“We’re of the same mindset,” agreed Eggington. “We’re mates but if you want to get somewhere in this game you have to box whoever comes along. On the night, we’ll be enemies but afterwards we’ll be fine and I’m sure we’ll have a little chat.”
