Errol Spence Jr made a massive statement in the boxing world with a superb comeback performance to beat Yordenis Ugas and add the WBA belt to his growing list of titles. There were more than a few question marks surrounding Spence heading into the fight as he was returning from a 14-month layoff to recover from eye surgery. However, he answered every single one of them emphatically as he took apart Ugas piece by piece until a doctor ruled the Cuban could not continue in the 10th round.

The win unifies his WBC and IBF titles with the WBA belt and secures his status as the man to beat at 147 pounds. One of the standout elements of the fight from Spence, especially considering he was just coming back from a lengthy injury, was his willingness and ability to trade huge blows at close range throughout the fight. He showed he could take a punch or two before unleashing a devastating counter that Ugas struggled to deal with all night. Spence even got into a bit of trouble in the sixth when a flurry of punches from Ugas visibly shook him but he stayed on his feet and ended up giving the Cuban a swollen right eye in the exchange. Full of confidence after the bout, Spence wasted no time letting the world know who is next in his sights. "Everybody knows who I want next, I want Terence Crawford next. That's the fight that I want, that's the fight everybody else wants. Terence, I'm coming for that belt," he said.

Spence was full of praise for his fallen adversary, who he says pushed him to the limit. "I didn't have any doubts at all. I believed in myself 100% and trained 100%," he said. "I didn't want a tune-up fight or someone I knew I could beat. I wanted someone who would bring out the best in me and Ugas did that. "The nutritionist helped a lot. I lost the weight and they did a great job. It was just my work in the gym. "I felt like my timing was off [early in his return] but I just kept working. I think that was due to the long layoff and I was super psyched to get in the ring and push the pace."
