Quigg (26-0) was upgraded from interim champion to the full fat version just before he faced skilled Cuban Yoandris Salinas (20-0-1) in London last month. The judges scored a majority draw, but the Bury super bantam, 25, boxed intelligently at world level, dominating the latter stages of the fight.

Silva’s last outing back in June was also scored a draw - against fellow countryman Nestor Hugo Paniagua. The thirty year old hasn’t fought outside of South America before - his most noteworthy challenge coming back in 2009 to former multi-weight world champion Fernando Montiel, who knocked out Silva in the third round - his only career stoppage.

Quigg’s trainer Joe Gallagher told the Bury Times: “Scott Quigg is one of only five world champions to hail from Greater Manchester and he felt it was important to be able to celebrate that fact with fans in his own back yard.

“What an amazing honour to be able to go into the ring at the Manchester Arena in front of 18,000 fans wearing that belt. It will cap what has been a brilliant year for Scott.”

Also on the undercard, Gallagher trained lightweight Anthony ‘Million Dollar’ Crolla (26-4-1) will try and win back his old British lightweight title from current champion Martin ‘The Quiet Man’ Gethin (24-4-1).

Crolla’s last outing was a career best win over former light welterweight world champion Gavin Rees, in which he picked up the WBO Inter Continental title. Gethin is coming off the back of a seventh round KO loss to Panamanian Ammeth Diaz in May.
